Mock NBDE Part I Exams
It's been 534 days since I started dental school in 2012.
I counted.
By virtue of sheer boredom and the "anything is better than studying" mentality.
In between finishing our complete denture project, practicing for our anterior fixed course, and seeing patients for sophomore perio module, we're ALSO supposed to start preparing for our board exams.
Yeah right...
In order to motivate us to study for boards, our dental school is making us sit through four mock board exams this trimester. We are given 3 hours to complete this 300 question exam. If you do the math, that equates to 36 seconds per question. Little did you know, the mock board exams are actually a test of endurance and speed-reading... To become eligible to take the real NBDE during summer, we have to pass the four mock exams with an average score of 70%.
I'd estimate that 98.5% of the second year dental students at USC don't actually have time to study for boards while tackling spring trimester. There just aren't enough hours in the day. However, we only have 66 more days left until we finish our preclinical courses! Starting summer trimester, we do get a good portion of free time to dedicate to board studying.
