Happy 21st Birthday, to me
My first legal alcoholic drink - Asian Pear Sake
My 21st birthday. A few weeks ago, someone told me that my 21st was the last big birthday to look forward to. "Everything goes downhill from there," he said.
It's hard not to be jealous at my little brother's excitement over birthdays. He called me this week, asking me to come home for my birthday so that he could eat birthday cake. I'm sure he's dying to see me but somehow, the birthday cake still takes precedence. He's at the ripe old age of 3 when everything in the world is still fresh and exciting to him. I remember how excited I was for birthdays as a kid. My fifth birthday was just as exciting as my sixth birthday which was just as exciting as my seventh birthday. Then high school came along and I stopped celebrating my birthday. There just wasn't enough time to study for finals and AP exams while having a full-fledged birthday party.
In hindsight, I sort of wished that I celebrated my sweet sixteen and my 18th birthday. So I ordered an Asian Pear Sake as my first legal alcoholic drink. It's kind of a big deal, you know? It's a special moment knowing that you are legally allowed to order cocktails from restaurants and gain entrance into 21+ clubs. But my waitress didn't even bother to card me for the alcoholic beverage.
How anticlimactic.
